Wrens are crazy!

And that is why I love them.

Dick was in trouble today. I called him and told him that a chick wanted to get into his shorts. This created some confusion and denial of course, until I sent him the pictures as proof!DSCN5573eHanging on the washing line are his swimming shorts. They haven’t been there long – maybe 3 days. But that didn’t stop a little feisty Wren family from thinking that is just the BEST place to make a nest. DESPITE all my efforts in hanging out THREE new bird houses, facing east no less, (as they should be) they still thought this flimsy piece of cloth was just dandy. I guess Dick’s shorts are just too hard to resist. 🙂DSCN5587All kinds of dried leaves and sticks were brought in for the construction.

I saw both female and male Wrens involved in the work, which is just wonderful.

DSCN5577eWrens are notorious for choosing odd places to nest and this certainly is no exception. Oh well, I think Dick is lovely too so I can hardly blame them. I guess we’ll have to get him a new spare pair of pants now.

More reasons to love the pond.

I got this hardy Water lily last year and it flowered a pretty pinky peach. But today while looking at the pond from the kitchen window, this bloom caught my eye: a two-toned bloom. Wow – I had to go grab my camera.

DSCN5503All it’s other flowers are a standard peachy pink like the one below:DSCN5506eThis is guy must have gone rogue somewhere. Not sure how, but I love it!

DSCN5508edOther parts of the pond are doing well too.

Cannas are finally blooming after a late start this year.

DSCN5489The pond always looks so beautiful in the morning.

Here’s a short video of the pond with the soothing splashing sounds. We keep our windows open at night just to hear the splashing and the frogs of course.
