And that is why I love them.
Dick was in trouble today. I called him and told him that a chick wanted to get into his shorts. This created some confusion and denial of course, until I sent him the pictures as proof!Hanging on the washing line are his swimming shorts. They haven’t been there long – maybe 3 days. But that didn’t stop a little feisty Wren family from thinking that is just the BEST place to make a nest. DESPITE all my efforts in hanging out THREE new bird houses, facing east no less, (as they should be) they still thought this flimsy piece of cloth was just dandy. I guess Dick’s shorts are just too hard to resist. 🙂
All kinds of dried leaves and sticks were brought in for the construction.
I saw both female and male Wrens involved in the work, which is just wonderful.
Wrens are notorious for choosing odd places to nest and this certainly is no exception. Oh well, I think Dick is lovely too so I can hardly blame them. I guess we’ll have to get him a new spare pair of pants now.
I think I left this comment on the wrong page of your blog …..??
Your pictures are stunning. How on earth did you manage to get the birds to stay still for long enough to take the picture???? My family of Great Tits were never still and every photograph I took showed up blank. The bird box in vision, no birds!!!
I read that the nesting bird boxes should face north in the northern hemisphere to protect the birds from the harshness of the sun ….??
…. and never mind any clutter in the garden …… we love seeing the garden in action and so incredibly beautiful.
Thanks for sharing your talents and witty stories with us ….. loved the denials and double-entendres about Dick.
