Rainstorm garden magic.

A stroll through the gardens after a gentle rainfall reveals a soft, peaceful atmosphere. The local dragonflies were out and about in the warm, humid air.

It’s a wonderful time to play with all the cool tricks the new camera has to offer!! I was intimidated before, but now I am really enjoying all the nifty toys.

This was shot with a soft-lighting effect.DSCN0708

The bog garden truly lends itself to this effect.

But I was simply mesmerized by all the water droplets catching the evening light.DSCN0730

Evening primrose was just opening up for the evening, sending some sunshine into the dusky garden and generously offering it’s sweet nectar to the evening pollinators.DSCN0632

The Texas Betony has an amazing leaf texture, and lends itself wonderfully to this soft-lighting effect too. The hummingbirds were a bit grumpy about sharing this plant with me this evening, buzzing around waiting for me to leave. It is a very prolific nectar plant.DSCN0664

All manner of birds appreciated the rain this evening. 🙂DSCN0672

And the Four-Nerve-Daisy was really just so happy to see some moisture.DSCN0673

What a beautiful, peaceful evening it truly is.DSCN0737DSCN0639

  1. Well, I actually started at the bottom of this brilliant presentation, obviously filled with valued time and a variety of numerous personal talents. You are blessed to have all this natural beauty at your fingertips .. to touch and feast your eyes upon anytime you wish. I know it does not come without tons of exhausting physical labor, sweat, forethought and planning. From the sunrise(?) to the Mother of Dragonflies .. the unique little leaf-shaped bird waterer … gorgeous Texas Betony that even your own hummingbirds are willing to fight for .. my favorite Primrose I often refer to as Fluttermill … the numerous water droplets on blades of grass and leaves .. and the beauty of the soft-lighting effects at the bog garden. Congratulations on a piece of work that is so well thought out, so brilliantly presented to your audience, and so well written with every word carefully weighed and balanced. It makes one want to be there .. to be a part of it.

  2. Heike, this has to be the most wonderful nature blog in the world! Your sharing of the beauty in your yard is a blessing to all who read it.
